Greetings.

Happy President’s Day! Hope everyone enjoyed having an extra holiday?

As for me, I returned on Saturday evening with some family members, after attending our Uncle Johnnie Thompson of Stone Mountain, Ga. funeral services.

Our Aunt Cleo Sherrill Thompson and three sons, Randy, Shelton, Fredrick, and Shelton’s wife, Samone, are all doing great. It was a family get-together with a host of Burton, Sherrill and Thompson families and friends. He was laid to rest on Monday in Canton, Ga. VA Cemetary. He served six years in the Air Force, later working as an airplane mechanic in Georgia.

I drove down from Brownsville with cousin, Minister Roger (Shelia) Sherrill and his mom and stepdad from Covington, Uncle Willie (Gloria Sherrill) Farrow. We did not stay for family repast, due to our having to pick up Roger’s and Shelia’s college-age daughter in Nashville. She was dropped off on our way to Georgia, so as to help her sister and brother-in-law settle into their new home there.

The rest of our family repasted at a local Po’ Folks in Georgia with our Aunt Cleo and family. All 10 of us siblings were able to be there, that is always an awesome time. For us, being together, we are so very blessed.

Samone Thompson sang beautifully “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” and her husband, Shelton, and Aunt Cleo spoke of their love elegantly for Uncle Johnnie. Reverend O Pearl Andrews’ “What’s In A Name?” sermon was awesome as always, and Minister Roger Sherrill did Old and New Testament and prayer. Aunt Gloria Farrow presented warm words of condolence, with the reading of his obituary. I was emcee for the hour. Let’s keep this family in our prayers and in our hearts.

The tailgate-styled picnic for George R. Ellis in Munford will be June 30 in Centennial Park, Millington, behind the YMCA. Contact Jessie Cook Jamestown for more information. No beer in the park. Enjoy the day!

Our prayers are with-Minister Pink Sherrill Jr., Ruth Alston, Robin Sherrill, Theron Alston, Fletcher and Nadine Dickerson Sr., Jessie Lawson, Mary Burton, Doris Deberry, Mary Ballard, Clyde Cook, Lela Mason, Eddie Dye, Bobbie Bennett, Christine Armstrong, Connie Brown, Terrance Sherrill, Randolph and Dollie Boykins, Paul Whitley and family, Sam Gray and family, and Rhonda Heaston-McLin and family.

Happy birthday to Shelia Sherrill (12th), Armon Tucker Brown (15th) and Ann Word (15th). Happy anniversary to Ret. Sgt. and Mrs. (Erma) Tim Burton Sr. of North Carolina and to Mr. and Mrs. David (Charlott) Brown of Atlanta, Ga., who’s also expecting their sixth child sometime in March!

That’s all for this time and remember always use your time wisely because each day that God gives to you is precious!

Until next time…
